Understanding Domain Name WHOIS Privacy Protection

WHOIS privacy protection (also called WHOIS ID Protection) is an optional service available for certain domain TLDs such as .com, .net, .biz, .org, .info, .we.bs, .me, .tv, .cc, and .asia. Please note that some domains, including .us, .uk, and .com.au, do not support this service at the top-level.

When you register a domain, you provide personal and/or business contact details, including your name, address, phone number, and email. This information is stored in the WHOIS record of your domain.

A domain’s WHOIS record contains:

  • Domain details (registration date, expiration date, and current name servers)
  • Registrant, administrative, technical, and billing contact information

By default, WHOIS records are publicly accessible, meaning anyone can view the information associated with a registered domain. This public access can expose your personal contact information to spammers, telemarketers, or other malicious actors.

How WHOIS Privacy Protection Works

The WHOIS privacy protection service conceals your personal data by replacing your contact information with our company’s contact details in the public WHOIS record. This ensures your personal information remains private while you continue to retain full ownership of your domain. The service does not affect your legal rights as the domain owner.

How to Enable WHOIS Privacy Protection

  1. Log in to your TrexHost Control Panel and go to My Domains > Registered Domains.
  2. In the domains list, locate the domain you want to protect. Click the icon in the WHOIS Privacy Protection column.
  3. A pop-up window will appear, showing:
    • Details about the WHOIS Privacy Protection service
    • Pricing
    • Available payment options
  4. Select your preferred payment method and click Continue to go to the payment page, where you can complete your purchase.

Important Note:
Providing false information in the WHOIS record is illegal and may lead to cancellation of your domain. Using false details is not a substitute for WHOIS privacy protection.

By enabling WHOIS privacy protection, you keep your personal information secure while maintaining full control and ownership of your domain.
